Excerpts from a Review
by Linda Waldemar,
The Republic of Pemberley 31st August, 2002
"Most of the
characters from Pride and Prejudice are present here. And, happily, they
act very much as I would expect them to act. Mr. Darcy has become more
playful and less serious. There were a couple of comments made by him
that my imagination could never conceive of; especially the one made to
Mrs. Quinn, the nurse! And I also wondered about what he said to Mr Hanford
during a male-only conversation.
There is one event that is unique to this sequel; a relationship that
is treated differently from any other that I have read. I was surprised,
but not displeased. There were a couple of other unexpected alliances;
one a bit far-fetched, I thought. I will let you discover these for yourself.
Excessively Diverted is a quick and pleasant read. I enjoyed it
very much."

"I am actually
very much enjoying it - you have a very nice style - it does bring to
mind Austen in the language."

" I was relieved that
Juliette Shapiro wasn't tempted, unlike many other sequel writers, to
inflict unhappiness on the newly married Darcys. Despite the lack of this
favoured conflict she creates plenty of other events that keep you turning
the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed Excessively Diverted. Jane Austen's
characters stay true to form throughout, except on one occasion when Darcy
scares the unwitting Nurse Quinn, but this minor deviation doesn't detract
from what is an enjoyable and faithful follow on."
Four Weddings and a Funeral
An opinion of Excessively Diverted by J.D.Matthews
July 2002
"I don't know
if the writer of Excessively Diverted did this on
purpose but there are four weddings and one death in this book but in
true Austen style the weddings are the focal point and the funeral (I
won't say which character dies:-) is viewed as an inconvenience by one
character and greeted with relief by another! There is the question of
devious dealings and two births to ponder and one very difficult decision
that Darcy has to face. Excessively Diverted is a
fast moving book packed with some surprising events. I loved the new characters
and almost forgot that they weren't original to Pride and Prejudice."
